The Task Switch Test

What is it?

This test measures how quickly you can switch between two different tasks. You’ll be shown a colored square with a number in the middle. On each side of the screen is a set of response buttons: one that asks if the number you see is odd or even, the other if it is higher or lower than five. The catch is in the color—if it’s blue, you need to answer higher or lower. If it’s pink, answer odd or even.

What does it measure?

Task switching is an important component of executive function. The term "executive function" describes a collection of brain processes that are responsible for guiding thought and behavior according to your situation. When situations change, your brain needs to adapt with them and Task Switch gives a baseline of how well you’re doing.
